I often get inquiries from potential clients that want to remodel their home but really don’t know where to start the process. Sometimes they bring us in towards the very beginning and some start to tackle it themselves and quickly realize they need a professional. For this particular client she had followed me for years on social media and when the time came to remodel her kitchen she reached out and in 2015 we gutted the kitchen. She had been thinking about her kitchen remodel for a while so she had some ideas in her head. However, once I viewed the space, my thoughts were quite different. For the square footage in this home, the kitchen was cramped into this little area yet there was the breakfast area that was twice the size- the layout just didn’t make sense to me. Let’s start by showing you a few pictures of the before.
So of course the only logical idea was to flip the spaces- yes a big undertaking, but in the end it was the best use of the space and really helped the homeowners achieve the goals of entertaining their kids and their friends. After months of being in reno mode, the project came to a close, not without a few hiccups along the way which is the case with every renovation- it’s the nature of the beast. But when this project got picked up by This Old House magazine as a feature- it was all worth it!
So here’s what you’ve been waiting for- the AFTER….
So that is it- had the homeowner gone about this themselves they would have stayed with the same footprint of the original kitchen and only made some minor changes yet spent a good bit of money on something they only liked but didn’t love. By flipping the space and adding all the design features they really needed it enabled them to have the space they really wanted. We recently completed a master bath and mom bathroom remodel for them as well- hopefully I will have photographed in the not so distant future!
